1. Editorial:

The 53rd session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child took place in Geneva from 11 to 29 January 2010. The countries considered by the Committee included: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mongolia, Norway, Paraguay, Tajikistan, Estonia, Sierra Leone, Israel and Liechtenstein. At the conclusion of each Committee session, the Secretariat of the Interagency Panel on Juvenile Justice (IPJJ) prepares a compilation of extracts of the Committee’s recommendations of relevance to juvenile justice reform, covering the prohibition of torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, the administration of juvenile justice and justice in matters involving child victims and witnesses of crimes.

In its recommendations, the Committee encouraged the governments of Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ecuador, Mongolia, Paraguay and Tajikistan to seek technical advice and assistance in juvenile justice from the IPJJ and its members. The Secretariat encourages a coordinated response of all IPJJ members to technical assistance requests and follow-up actions at the international and national level.
