Welcome to the website of the Interagency Panel on Juvenile Justice

An estimated 1.1 million children are deprived of their liberty worldwide (UNICEF, 2008). The Interagency Panel on Juvenile Justice (IPJJ) , a  coordination group mandated by the United Nations Economic Social Council (ECOSOC), works to change this situation by facilitating and enhancing the coordination of technical assistance in juvenile justice reform. Panel members are active in the promotion and improvement of juvenile justice in compliance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international instruments.

This website is designed to make information and resources available in the area of justice for children, including children in conflict with the law and child victims and witnesses of crimes. It aims to increase information exchange and collaboration amongst actors working on these issues, including government representatives, legislators, judges, prosecutors, attorneys, police, social workers, community workers, youth workers, detention centre staff, civil society organizations, the media and academics.

You are invited to share relevant materials and information through this website. The IPJJ relies on your contributions to ensure a continued exchange of quality information on efforts to develop child-oriented and rights-based juvenile justice systems.

The opinions and information expressed in the documents available on this website are those of the individual authors. The IPJJ does not necessarily endorse, support, share or take any responsibility for the views expressed in these documents.
